Resources for Multiracial Organizing in the Southern United StatesBackground
Background The resources listed on this page are the result of Across Races and Nations (ARN), a four-year project that used community-based research and popular education techniques to explore the impact of increasing immigration, particularly from Latin America, on the South. ARN was co-sponsored by Highlander, the Center for Research on Women at the University of Memphis, and the Southern Regional Council in Atlanta. The project explored the experiences of new immigrants as they arrive in and adapt to the South, and the attitudes of more-long-term residents toward new immigrants. It also sought to identify areas of potential conflict and collaboration among different racial/ethnic groups, and to encourage multiracial efforts to address common needs. For more on Highlander's work with the Latino community in the Southeast, see our Pueblos de Latinoamérica project. Publications from "Across Races and Nations" The following publications were prepared as a result of Across Races and Nations. All but the first are available in both English and Spanish.
