ProgramThe Highlander Children's Justice Camp is the first step in the Seeds of Fire program. Now in its 25nd year, the camp offers a unique week of summer fun and self-discovery for campers 7 through 12 years of age. It also serves as a catalyst in encouraging our young campers to choose a life of social justice activism.
The Children's Justice Camp is located on our 106 acre farm near New Market, Tennessee, and is intended primarily for children whose families are active in working for social justice and democratic participation, especially in Appalachia. It provides an opportunity for learning multi-culturally, bringing together children from different races, nations, classes, and geographies for a week of fun, sharing, and learning. Our goal is to help instill in each child a sense of responsibility, a desire for self-reflection, and a passion for loving all humans. We ask parents to participate as well by donating a minimum of 4 hours per child to help make the camp successful. Additionally, we are always interested in volunteers to conduct, assist, or give ideas for classes (on social and environmental issues, arts and crafts, science and nature studies, etc.). Cost & ScheduleCost is based on a sliding scale, depending on family income, and there are a few scholarships available.
