In celebration of 75 years of social justice organizing in the South, and in keeping with its commitment to art and culture as effective and necessary organizing tools, the Highlander Center is taking a comprehensive look at how music and storytelling have been instrumental in shaping our work and the history of the broader social justice movement.

75th Sampler Songbook

As part of this project, we are producing a series of CD's and a songbook documenting music and stories that have their roots at Highlander, as well as songs and stories from within the broader scope of social justice movements.

So far, we have produced the first CD, entitled Harmonies from the Hill, Volume 1, and a zine-style preview of the songbook, the 75th Sampler Songbook. Both can be purchased online at the Highlander bookstore at www.highlandercenter.org/r-b-75th.asp.

All artists featured on the CD are from the South, and three of the CD’s tracks were recorded during a song-sharing workshop at Highlander in April 2007. The CD was produced through volunteer efforts of Highlander staff, board members, and friends, and supports the work of Highlander’s Cultural Program. The CD contains the following songs.
